Winter storms
rarely paralyze
modern cities,
advance forecasting,
snow removal equipment,
early public alerts
insure continued functioning,
except when crippling winds
shatter the power grid
leaving us in darkness,
huddled in caves
imploring the spirits
not to extinguish
tribal fires.
