The revelry goes on
mostly fueled
by liquor, drugs,
more than good feelings,
celebrants ignorant
of what they’re celebrating,
a socially approved excuse
to get drunk, stoned,
yell, scream, argue, fight,
throw up in the gutter,
fully participating
in a special day.
