INWOOD ★ INDIANA ★ A REAL SMALL TOWN ★ InwoodStories & poems from a real small town

Small Town Fun

Bless this little town—
unlocked doors
not many cars
dollar candy bars
corn growers
push mowers
Friday football games
and everybody, everywhere,
knows your fucking name
cub scouts
paper routes
blue jeans
garden beans
blood and scary things
rotting gutted pigs
the sound of snapping twigs
it must be in your head
children swimming in the lake
giggling on summer break
children washed up dead
grinning teachers
gym bleachers
cut up bodies in the trunk
fighting over the top bunk
holiday parades
fuck those fags
and parents said it, too
truth or dare at noon
parks and birthday balloons
Saturday cartoons
a never-ending game of hide and seek
new bodies floating in the creek
golden rules
at bible school
Christmas trees in snow
Jesus loves us this I know—
Bless this little town
