I stand in the shadow
and wonder where to go next:
I drift directionless over emerald
hills and mountain terrain,
over cobalt oceans and small
tide pools of Nosara’s beach.
I want a long deep sleep remembering
nothing. I see the million
stars of last night and don’t
question a life beyond.
Preparing to die hardly seems
necessary. Isn’t it living I should
do now?
I’m waiting, says my pen,
for answers or at least a poem,
a drifting melody of lightness,
a dawdling drive to the next town.
Time stands still,
no answers appear,
it is a quiet afternoon,
no visitors, slow energy.
Somewhere a holiday is celebrated,
but that observance seems far away.
This time is just a peaceful interlude
before the next path appears,
a time out to heal, a time out
to be.
