I drive deep into the right corner and go up in the air,
hang for an instant, and get nothing but net!
Afterwards, one of the players on our younger team,
Vinnie Berndetto asks me how I stay up in the air so long.
Vinnie died last week.
I clear a rebound, turn, and hit Buddy Kelly streaking
downcourt for a layup
Buddy died over 10 years ago.
Bob Cummings takes a rebound, gives to me and
I find John Marai with a bounce pass as he cuts
to the basket – two more points!
Both Bob and John are dead for over ten years.
After the game, coach Jim McArdle pats me on the
ass and says “Nice game”
Jim’s been dead for over twenty years.
Bob Gorman and Jerry Moran walk up the stairs with
me to the locker room.
They’re both gone too.
Sometimes I remember too much.
